Trends in the home? Do we like them? Do we hate them? Do we not care and just do our own thing?

That's where I'm at these days, just do a style you enjoy. It could be a mix of mid century, cottage core, art deco. Who knows? The possibilities are truly endless. All I know is that I've been around long enough to see styles come and go. Some I thought would never come back, yet here they are. For instance, oak wood, I'm literally seeing it come back in some places, granted with a different flair, but STILL.

Currently I live in a home that was designed from the most current trend, grey everything, grey floors, grey brownish flooring, white trim, white back splash and matte black. Beautiful, clean and in my eyes just fine. However, does it speak to my soul? No, it does not. I've had to find ways to turn this house into my home.

"Elizabeth, why are you even talking about this?" Well, I've been on many a showing with buyers where they will love so many aspects about the home: the location, the square footage, the floor plan, how many bedrooms it has, etc. but they'll hate how outdated the trim is, or the kitchen cabinets. To this I say, don't throw the house out with the bathwater; that's the phrase right? But in all seriousness, cosmetic things can be changed and trends come and go so every home is not going to tick all the boxes, even new construction.

So I urge everyone to figure out their wants and their needs and if the house fits the needs you can always work on the wants. You might also be wondering how to figure out what your wants and needs are, sometimes when first starting out everything feels like a need. As you start looking at more and more homes you will start to whittle down what is really important to you. It's always better to start broad and narrow it down.
